Dawn at San Clemente Pier

Dawn at San Clemente Pier

A cliche shot for sure...
I didn't originally process this photo because at the time I was hoping for drama and was disappointed with the sunrise (and of course a dramatic sunrise would make it even more of a cliche!). Now looking back I realize that it captures what I love most about being at the beach for sunrise...the feeling of inner peace, calmness and hope for the new day as the first light begins to tint the sky, captured in soft pinks and blues with a shutter speed just slow enough to show the gentle motion of the waves (and the birds too haha, which I decided to leave as is to continue the sense of motion), listening to the calming rhythmic sound as I watch the world awaken to the new day. The people I meet on the beach at sunrise all share a knowing smile, as if we alone know the secret of what a special time and place it is and how lucky we are to be there. And I realize that I don't always need or want drama, sometimes this is exactly what I need.
